The Human Person
An Approach To An Integral Theory Of Personality
Arnold, Magda B., y John A. Gasson. 1954. The Human Person: An Approach To An Integral Theory Of Personality. New York: The Ronald Press Company.
In this volume a group of Catholic psychologists have atempted to formulate an integrated theory of personality on a Christian conception of human nature. They first examine the basic assumptions and principles of scientific theories in general and of theories of personality in particular. Following a survey of present-day views, a theory of personality is developed which includes human values yet rests on a valid scientific basis and can be tested experimentally. In this theory the related factors of learning and emotion are given their proper place in personality integration, thus providing an important theoretical contribution in these two areas. Finally, this personalistic conception of man is shown to provide the theoretical foundation for a psychotherapy which respects Christian concepts and values. A discussion of the role of religion in focusing personality integration concludes the book.
This book, with its emphasis on the place of values in modern psychology, addresses itself to professional psychologists as well as serious students, to all who are interested in a comprehensive study of man. It is a primary text for courses in personality.
